SMARTfit Helps Slow Loss of Cognitive Function and Physical Mobility

SMARTfit in-room brain and body training to slow loss of ADLs is more efficient and cost effective

As we exit the pandemic, long term care facilities are facing skyrocketing costs associated with accelerated physical and cognitive decline in their residents.

Maintaining both cognitive and physical health is a primary concern for aging adults and those who make decisions about their care, typically their children.  Those considering long-term care options are increasingly seeking the inclusion of brain health programs which focus on improving ADLs (activities of daily living).

In creating a cost effective solution SMARTfit looked to eliminating the time required to bring residents to and from the gym, instead providing a solution that can be delivered room-to-room by a single therapist or trainer. Focusing on Brain and Body activities with SMARTfit gamification is fun, engaging and is correlated with improved balance and with the thought processes involved in ADLs.

The SMARTfit Portable Mini can be easily moved from room to room and takes only 3-4 minutes to set up.  This reduces staff costs by allowing a single staff person to safely facilitate both a brain and body exercise program in under 30 minutes per session.

In addition, SMARTfit has just released new programming of 900 specifically designed exercises to train assisted level clients who are confined to wheelchairs or walkers.  These programs are coupled with new baseline and progress tests specifically focused on evaluating cognitive and motor functionality. This ability to measure, train and track each person’s results, provides a clear map of how every person is progressing.  For multi-site organizations, SMARTfit’s client management system provides clear reporting on the progress of each resident at each facility, without the need to physically visit each site.

Greg Cini, CEAL, CDP, and President/Owner of Kemper House says, “We’re excited because we’re partnering with SMARTfit as part of our plan to re-define Alzheimer’s and Dementia care not only here in central Ohio but around the nation.”

Kemper House has selected SMARTfit as a flagship offering due to its gamified programming which is demonstrating effectiveness at slowing the progression of cognitive impairment.

“One of the crown jewels of our fitness center is the SMARTfit technology. We know it’s not only going to improve our residents’ cognition; it is also going to improve their health.”
